Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, accessing, or using A Word a Day (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”), operated by A Word a Day.
If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.
Use of the App
A Word a Day provides vocabulary learning, word discovery, personalization, home-screen widgets, and related premium features.
You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
You must not:
- Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
- Attempt to interfere with the operation or security of the App
- Reverse engineer, copy, or exploit the App or its content without authorization
- Use automated systems or bots to access the App
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms.
Accounts
An account is optional. Many features work in guest mode with favorites, history, streak, and preferences stored on your device until you sign in, sync, or clear local data.
Signing out of an account does not delete it. Local favorites, history, and streak are removed from that device so it returns to a blank guest. Cloud data is restored when you sign in again. Premium access is restored through your App Store or Google Play account (Restore purchases), which is separate from the optional app account.
If you create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate and current account information.
Subscriptions and premium features
The App may offer paid subscriptions.
Premium features currently include:
- Full word history beyond the free 7-day view
- Topic (category) personalization
- Pronunciation audio
- Access to the Premium vocabulary pool
Home-screen widgets, optional daily reminders (including reminder time), favorites, streaks, and today’s cached word offline are available without a Premium subscription.
Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled before the renewal date through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.
Premium is currently $0.49 per month or $4.99 per year, billed through the App Store or Google Play. Pricing, subscription terms, and available features may change over time.
Billing and payments
All payments are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
We do not directly collect or store payment card information.
Subscription management, billing disputes, refunds, and cancellations are handled according to Apple or Google’s respective policies.
Free trials and promotional offers
New Premium subscriptions may include a 7-day free trial. After the trial, the subscription renews at the then-current price unless you cancel in the App Store or Google Play before the trial ends.
Eligibility and availability may vary and may be modified or discontinued at any time.
Intellectual property
The App, including its design, branding, text, graphics, content, software, widgets, and functionality, is owned by A Word a Day or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or commercially exploit any part of the App without prior written permission.
User content
The App stores preferences and learning data you generate (such as favorites and history). You retain ownership of your content.
You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display such content solely for operating and improving the App.
You are responsible for any content you submit or sync.
Availability and changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the App at any time without notice.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the App.
Features, premium offerings, and pricing may change over time.
Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
We do not guarantee that:
- The App will always be available or error-free
- Content will always be accurate or complete
- The App will meet all user expectations or requirements
Your use of the App is at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, A Word a Day shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App.
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App or related subscriptions within the prior twelve months.
Termination
You may stop using the App at any time.
We may suspend or terminate access to the App if you violate these Terms or misuse the service.
Signed-in users may permanently delete their account from Settings → Premium & Account or Settings → Support, Privacy & Legal, or on the web at https://awordaday.app/delete-account. See our Privacy Policy for what is deleted, what may remain on your device, and how store subscriptions are handled separately from account deletion.
Account deletion removes stored cloud learning data associated with that account. It does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Manage or cancel billing in your store account settings. Premium access on a device continues to follow the store account used to purchase, including Restore purchases.
Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
If changes are made, we will update the “Last Updated” date above.
Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing law
These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of North Carolina, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles.
